National Conversations Series

The National Conversations on Social Innovation will create debate on forms of SI for the future and understanding critique/criticism. This series of five events will occur over the next few months, aiming to cover a range of thematic areas and engage key practitioners and organisations in lively discussion. These sessions will take the form of a roundtable where dialogue and discussion can be held on broad and high level themes. As we are aiming to make this a UK conversation about each topic, we are inviting a range of organisations from the four UK nations to be a part of the conversation. These will be online events, held on Zoom.

Organiser and facilitator

Social Innovation Connect, or SIC is the European Social Fund UK Social Innovation Competence Centre – set up and led by Glasgow Caledonian University. SIC aims to create a better, more connected UK social innovation ecosystem across the regions, with stronger transnational ties to Europe and beyond. It is a member of the European Social Innovation Alliance (ESIA), an EU-funded programme which is supporting the establishment of national social innovation 'competence centres' across Europe.

We are delighted to be joined by Carolyn Arbuckle from the West of Scotland KTP Centre, who will provide a guide to the application process, the management areas covered by the mKTP and the types of companies most likely to benefit from participating.

What are KTPs?

Innovation is the lifeblood of any business. Never more so than in today’s challenging economic climate.

But how do you access and embed the leading expertise, facilities and thinking that are needed to make innovation happen? Whether the knowledge required is in management skills, new technologies, or manufacturing processes, a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) may be the answer.

One of the UK government’s longest running and most successful knowledge transfer programmes, KTPs help companies big and small to innovate for growth and profit, linking forward-thinking organisations with leading academic teams to deliver new products, services and capabilities.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) are dynamic, three way partnerships that link a business, an expert academic team and a suitably qualified graduate. Together the KTP team collaborates to deliver a strategic project - sharing expertise, experience and resources to bring about change, embed knowledge and deliver growth. A unique type of match-funding, KTP is all about collaboration, with projects lasting from between 12 months to three years.

GCU/CCI Social Innovation Webinar

On the 19th January 2022, our team held a workshop with the team from the Centre for Civic Innovation from Glasgow City Council to discuss common challenges in our work to promote social and civic innovation. Both teams were able to share experiences, trends and difficulties faced in our work, and use this to outline ways in which we might work together and synergise our activities. This meeting was part of initial work being done to develop a Social Innovation Competence Centre in the European Social Fund project ESIA (European Social Innovation Alliance).

The Social Innovation Competence Centre (called Social Innovation Connect), is being developed by Glasgow Caledonian University to create a better, more connected UK social innovation ecosystem across the regions, with stronger transnational ties to Europe and beyond.

If you are interested in engaging with us to look at ways to collaborate and support innovation with social impact, then please get in contact via LinkedIn , Twitter or our webpage.
